To use an advanced feature, you must enable the feature. Until the feature is enabled, you do not see the workflow in the Configuration list of the GUI. You enable an advanced feature from the section called “Enabling Advanced Configuration Features (Options)” screen.

Working with Customer Accounts

When you enable the Use Customer option (Advanced > Options, and select Use Customer), the NearStore VTL appliance administrator can set up accounts for multiple customers. The administrator can then add virtual libraries to these accounts, based on the needs of each customer. The administrator of any given customer account can see only the virtual libraries that are associated with that account. This provides enhanced security.

When the administrator of a customer account logs in to a NearStore VTL appliance, he or she does not have access to the full functionality of the system. Rather, the administrator has access only to the functionality that is required for managing the virtual libraries and volumes that are associated with the customer account.

Customer functionality includes:

Monitoring—provides a screen from which the customer account can be monitored. This includes a list of all virtual libraries that are associated with the customer account and a list of virtual tape import/export requests.

Virtual Library Management—gives an interface from which the customer’s virtual libraries can be managed.

Create Virtual Tape—provides an interface from which virtual tapes can be created. The number of virtual tapes that can be created is limited by the amount of disk space available to the customer account.

Import/Export Request—gives a screen on which import and export requests are displayed.

Import Virtual Tape—provides an interface from which physical tapes can be imported into a virtual library.

Move Virtual Tapes—gives an interface from which the customer’s virtual tapes can be moved between compatible virtual libraries.

SCSI Addresses—provides a screen on which the SCSI/Fibre Channel addresses of the customer’s virtual libraries are displayed.

Port List—provides a screen on which the front—end physical ports of the NearStore VTL appliance are displayed.

Change Write Protected Status—gives an interface from which the status of the customer’s virtual tapes can be changed.

Change Export Status—provides an interface from which the export status of the customer’s virtual tapes can be changed.

User Account Setup—provides an interface from which the login identification and login password of the customer can be changed.

Customer tasks include:

Viewing Customer Accounts

The NearStore VTL displays the customer accounts that you have added to the configuration of the NearStore VTL appliance on the Customer List screen. Information for each customer account includes the customer name and number, capacity allocated, capacity used, and contact information.

The Customer List screen appears, and the following is displayed for all customer accounts that have been added to the NearStore VTL appliance.
