You can map specific hosts to specific virtual libraries.
These mappings can be either dedicated or shared. When the mapping is dedicated, only the host specified can see and use the virtual library. When the mapping is shared, multiple hosts can see and use the virtual library.
This feature can be useful in the event that you want to set up virtual libraries for each host that is going to back up data to the NearStore VTL appliance. This configuration is recommended because it eliminates the need for library sharing during backup windows.
For example, consider a situation in which each department in the organization is going to back up data to the NearStore VTL appliance. If the data of certain departments, for example human resources, is sensitive, you have to restrict access to it. You can do this by setting up a dedicated mapping between this department (host) and a corresponding virtual library.
Likewise, if there are multiple departments (hosts) that have to back up nonsensitive data, you can set up shared mappings between these departments and a single virtual library.
Host access control is usually used to simplify the configuration at the host level because when host access control is enabled, each host sees only one virtual library.
This subsection provides the following tasks:
You can view a table of already defined host to WWPN maps.
Complete this task to view existing host to WWPN maps:
From the Configuration Tasks menu, located on the left side of the screen, click the Hosts task category.
Click the Host List tab, located in the upper portion of the screen.
The Host List screen appears.
Before you can create mappings between hosts and specific virtual libraries, you must first add these hosts to the configuration of the NearStore VTL appliance. A host is a device from which data will be backed up. You can add hosts only when the device access feature is enabled for the NearStore VTL appliance. See Enabling Advanced Configuration Features for more information. To “add” a host you associate a host name with a WWPN.
Complete this task to add hosts:
From the Configuration Tasks menu, located on the left side of the screen, click the Hosts task category.
Click the Add Host tab, located in the upper portion of the screen.
Complete the following information:
Customer—specifies the name of the customer who owns the listed hosts. This field is present only if the Use Customer option has been selected under Advanced > Options.
Host Name—provides the name of the host.
WWN—gives the World Wide Name for the host. This must be entered as a 16–character hexadecimal value, or you can use the WWN drop-down menu to select the WWN of a host that is visible from the system.
When a host is no longer needed, you can delete it from the configuration of the NearStore VTL appliance.
Complete this task to delete hosts from the NearStore VTL appliance:
From the Configuration Tasks menu, located on the left side of the screen, click the Hosts task category.
Click Delete Host tab, located in the upper portion of the screen.
The Delete Hosts screen appears and the hosts that are configured for the system are listed.
From the Action field, click the name of the host that you want to delete.
When prompted, click Apply to confirm that you want to delete the specified host.
