Use this procedure to rebuild the library configuration if it becomes necessary to replace the VTL head, including the compact flash. Some of the necessary data is kept on the physical disks, but before that data can be imported into the new system, you must reload or recreate some basic configuration data. You need to save this basic configuration data ahead of time. The information includes the names of all the virtual libraries, their types, and the order in which they were created in the original system. In addition to the VTL appliance configuration data, the WWPNs of the host facing ports change, so be prepared to revise the zoning configuration for your SAN.
There are two basic ways to save the basic configuration data: create a configuration file copy of the data by using the Save Configuration task (Configuration Tasks > Miscellaneous > Configuration Management, click Save Configuration, and follow the instructions to save a file), or by creating a printable copy of the data, which you can save as either a file or printout. Typically, the saved configuration file is both faster to create and easier to reload, but you might additionally want a printable copy for your records. A convenient way to keep the necessary details is by printing out the SCSI addresses of all libraries (Configuration Tasks >Virtual Libraries >SCSI Addresses) and the Virtual library list (Configuration Tasks >Virtual Libraries >Virtual Library List). The order of the LUNs reflects the order in which the libraries were created. The table shows the values for the example.
