Working with ACSLS Libraries (Physical Libraries)

After you have set up the communication link between the NearStore VTL and an ACSLS server, you can add, drop, and monitor the ACSLS server-controlled libraries that the NearStore VTL can use.

Tasks for this subsection include:

Viewing the List of ACSs

You can view the list of ACSs defined to the NearStore VTL, and you can view the list sorted in various ways.

Complete this task to view the list of attached ACSs:

  1. From the Configuration Tasks menu, located on the left side of the screen, click the Physical Libraries task category.

The ACS List screen appears showing the following:

Nickname—gives the nickname of the ACS.

    ACS ID—provides the ACS ID.

ACS State—gives the current state of the ACS. Valid state values are the following:

INVALID The NearStore VTL has not yet established communication with the ACSLS server. The component is not discovered yet.
DIAGNOSTIC ACSLS admin is running the component in the diagnostic mode.
    OFFLINE Component is offline.
    OFFLINE_PENDING Component is going offline.
    ONLINE Component is working normally.
RECOVERY The component is coming online.

Drive Count—provides the number of drives in the device.

CAP Count—provides the number of CAPs in the device.

LSM Count—provides the number of LSMs in the device.

  2. You can modify the presentation and show additional information using the radio buttons (ACS View, LSM View, Drive View, and CAP View) above the ACS list. For example, by selecting Drive View, the list expands to show the details for each drive in each listed ACS.

    Note

Drives displayed in Drive View are all the drives the NearStore VTL sees through the ACSLS server (that is the control path). Individual drives might or might not be connected to the VTL (accessible over the data path). The drive status shows connected if the drive is connected.

Adding ACSLS Libraries

Before the NearStore VTL can use an ACS-controlled tape, the library containing the tape needs to be added. Note that before you can add a library, you need to add the ACS server.

Complete this task to add ACS-controlled libraries to the NearStore VTL:

  1. From the Configuration Tasks menu, located on the left side of the screen, click the Physical Libraries task category.

  2. Click the Add ACS tab, located in the upper portion of the screen.

The Add ACS screen appears, and the NearStore VTL displays the list of ACSs identified by the NearStore VTL. For each ACS the following is listed:

Nickname—gives the nickname of the ACS .

ACS ID—gives the ID for the ACS.

ACS State—gives the current state of the ACS.

LSM ID—gives the LSM ID or IDs associated with the ACS.

Serial Number—provides the serial number for the LSM.

Model—gives model information for the LSM.

  3. Click the check box to the left of the ACS you want to add. Click the check box at the top of the column to select all ACSs. You can click Discover to force the NearStore VTL to recheck for ACSs, if not all of the ACSs are displayed

  4. Click Apply.

The selected ACSs are added to the configuration of the NearStore VTL.

Click Reset to remove all selections you have made.

Dropping ACSLS Libraries

You can drop individual libraries from the system.

Complete this task to drop ACSLS libraries from the NearStore VTL appliance:

  1. From the Configuration Tasks menu, located on the left side of the screen, click the Physical Libraries task category.

  2. Click the Drop ACS tab, located in the upper portion of the screen.

The Drop ACS screen appears, and the NearStore VTL displays the list of ACSs identified by the NearStore VTL. For each ACS the following is listed:

Nickname—gives the nickname of the ACS.

ACS ID—gives the ACS ID for the ACS.

ACS State—gives the current ACS state of the ACS.

LSM ID—gives the LSM ID or IDs associated with the ACS.

LSM State—gives the current state of the LSM associated with the ACS.

Serial Number—provides the serial number for the LSM.

Model—gives model information for the LSM.

  3. Click the check box to the left of ACSs you want to drop. Click the check box at the top of the column to select all ACSs.

  4. Click Apply.

The selected ACSs are dropped from the configuration of the NearStore VTL.

Click Reset to remove all selections you have made.
