Click Apply, or click Reset to return all values to their previous settings.
You can disable the sending of AutoSupport by selecting “No AutoSupport Notification.”
You can use the Shelf Controller Firmware Upgrade screen to upgrade shelf controller firmware. New versions of shelf firmware can be included with NearStore VTL OS releases and can be supplied as separate files. When a VTL appliance boots, the version of the shelf firmware on the disks is compared to the release(s) included with the OS. Any shelf with outdated firmware is identified and an action is generated.
Before beginning a shelf controller firmware upgrade note that all I/O is stopped, and that power should remain on during the entire upgrade process.
Do not start a disk shelf controller firmware upgrade while a disk firmware upgrade is in process.
Complete this task to upgrade the disk shelf controller firmware:
From the Configuration Tasks menu, located on the left side of the screen, click the Support Tools task category.
Click the Shelf Firmware Upgrade tab, located in the upper portion of the screen.
The Shelf Controller Firmware Upgrade screen appears.
To select a disk shelf controller for upgrading, click the box at the start of the row for that disk shelf controller. To select all controllers, click the box at the top of the column.
To install the latest version of firmware already on the VTL click Apply. Otherwise click Browse. The web browser opens a file select and upload window on your workstation. Navigate to, and select, the firmware file you want installed. On the Shelf Controller Firmware Upgrade screen, click Apply.
The upgrade takes about 10 minutes per shelf.
Using the GUI you can initiate the upgrade of disk firmware, monitor the status of the upgrade process, and see if the process failed for any disks.
New versions of disk firmware can be included with NearStore VTL OS releases and can be supplied as separate files.
NearStore VTL firmware includes a list of recommended disk firmware levels. When a NearStore VTL boots, the version of the disk firmware on the disks is compared to the recommendations included with the OS. Any disk with outdated firmware is identified and an action is generated.
You can start an upgrade by directly going to the Disk Firmware Upgrade tab, or if there is an upgrade action, you can click this action to go to the action resolution page; on the action resolution page you can choose to either ignore the action, removing it, or resolve the action, which takes you to the Disk Firmware Upgrade tab.
This section provides the following tasks:
The Disk Firmware Upgrade tab displays the list of all the connected disk models, the number of disks of that model with a different firmware version than the recommended one, and the recommended version for each model. Models with "N/A" for the recommended version do not require an upgrade.
During the upgrade all I/O is stopped, and power must remain on. The upgrade process takes about four minutes per disk.
Do not start a disk firmware upgrade while a disk shelf controller firmware upgrade is in process.
Complete this task to upgrade the disk firmware:
From the Configuration Tasks menu, located on the left side of the screen, click the Support Tools task category.
Click the Disk Firmware Upgrade tab, located in the upper portion of the screen.
The Disk Firmware Upgrade screen appears.
To select disks for upgrading, click the radio button in the Upgrade column in front of the entry for the disk model. To select all disks, click the box at the top of the column.
Selecting a disk that is attached to a VTL appliance, but not supported, disables both upgrade selections.
Select either Upgrade with the VTL copy of firmware image to use the version of the firmware included with the OS, or Upgrade with the recent firmware version available on NOW web site, to manually download the firmware images from the NOW web site, and then install those releases. (If there is no appropriate local firmware image, you cannot select Upgrade with the VTL copy of firmware image.)
If you select Upgrade with the recent firmware version available on NOW web site, the field Disk Firmware Binary File and a browse button displays, and, if required for the selected disk type, Disk Firmware Control File and browse button. Select the desired file.
Click Apply to start the upgrade process, or click Reset to remove your selections.
Before the actual firmware install starts:
The firmware file is validated
Validation depends on the file name, so do not change firmware file names.
The discovery process is blocked. Discovery resumes after completion.
The RAID groups are set offline. The RAID groups are put back online after completion.
The screen is replaced with the Disk Firmware Upgrade Status screen.
Once all the models which have mismatched firmware versions are upgraded, any upgrade action is removed.
After starting a disk firmware upgrade page from the Disk Firmware Upgrade tab, the VTL displays the Disk Firmware Upgrade Status page. The Disk Firmware Upgrade Status page shows the detailed status for each model of disk undergoing an upgrade. The display is organized by disk model, and lists the recommended firmware version, the total number of disks selected for upgrading, the currently active upgrades, the number of upgrades that have failed, the number of pending upgrades and includes a status column. Upgrade status can be one of:
Running
A status of Running indicates that some or all of the disks of that model are getting upgraded or are queued. Disks are queued because no more than five disks are upgraded in parallel, and no more than one disk per RAID group is upgraded at a time. It takes about four minutes to upgrade a disk.
Click on Running to go to the status page for that model.
Pending and Failed
A status of Failed indicates one or more disks of that model have failed during the upgrade process. The status of all the other disks which are queued for upgrade are then changed to Pending.
Click on Pending or Failed to go to the Disk Firmware Upgrade Failure page.
Idle
A status of idle indicates no disks of that model are being updated.
After a successful upgrade, if there are no mismatched disk firmware versions left, there will be no recommended column in the status list. If mismatched versions still exist, an upgrade action is generated. If the upgrade fails for any disk, all the other queued installations are stopped and a failed action is thrown once all the active installations are complete.
Click on Pending or Failed from the Disk Firmware Upgrade Status page, or click a failed action, to go to the Disk Firmware Upgrade Failure Page. The Disk Firmware Upgrade Failure Page lists disks for which the firmware upgrade process failed (upgrade status field shows FAILED), or not yet completed (upgrade status field shows PENDING).
Click Ignore to cancel failed pending upgrades and to remove the failed actions. Click Restart to retry the upgrades and go to the Disk Upgrade Status page.
If an upgrade fails, try unplugging the disks with disk upgrade failures, and then plugging them back in, or power cycling the shelves with the disk upgrade failures.
