Using SCSI Physical Libraries

This section describes ongoing administrative physical library workflows, and includes the following sections:

Viewing the Physical Library Inventory

You can view the inventory of barcodes contained in a physical library.

Complete this task to view the inventory of tapes (barcodes) in a physical library:

  1. From the Daily Tasks menu, located on the left side of the screen, click the Physical Libraries task category.

  2. Click the Physical Library Inventory tab, located in the upper portion of the screen.

The Physical Library Inventory screen appears. The screen provides a drop down list of recognized physical libraries to select from, radio buttons to select how the inventory list is sorted, the total number of volumes represented by the barcodes, and the inventory of barcodes. The inventory is listed in a table showing the barcodes, nickname for the location of the barcode, the date cloned, date exported, the associated virtual library, the date the associated virtual library tape was written, whether the virtual and physical tapes are in sync and the status. Status can be one of the following:

    • NEW—the physical tape is newly added to the NearStore VTL appliance

    • IMPORTED—the physical tape is imported into the appliance

    • CLONED—the physical tape is cloned

    • CLONE_PENDING—the physical tape is waiting to be cloned

    • EXPORTED—the virtual tape has been exported and is no longer in the virtual library

    • EXPORT PENDING—the virtual tape has been scheduled for exporting, but is not yet exported

    • EEP_PENDING—the physical tape is waiting to be moved to the physical library entry/exit port

You can click Query Volumes to force an update of the data.

Because the list size can be very large, it can be difficult to find a specific barcode. You can search the list for a specified barcode. Enter the barcode in the Find Volume: field, and click Find. The specified barcode is highlighted.

Viewing the Inventory of Tape Drives in a Physical Library

You can view the list of tape drives in a physical library connected to the NearStore VTL appliance.

Complete this task to view the VTL-connected tape drives:

  1. From the Daily Tasks menu, located on the left side of the screen, click the Physical Library task category.

  2. Click the Drive Inventory tab, located in the upper portion of the screen.

The Drive Inventory screen appears. The screen provides a drop down list of recognized physical libraries to select from. The inventory is listed in a table showing the nickname, drive ID, port number, LUN number, the tape label, if a tape is in the drive, the drive model, and drive status.
