Creating a Virtual Tape (vtape add)

SYNOPSIS

vtape add vlib_id start_name count

ARGUMENTS

vlib_id Name of the virtual library to which a virtual tape is to be added.
start_name Name of the first tape in the sequence out of n tapes to be added.
count Number of tapes to be added. When you create multiple virtual tapes, the NearStore VTL increments their labels based on the starting tape label.

RESULT

If the vlib_id is valid, the vtape add command creates count number of virtual tapes. By default, the virtual tapes that you create take on the characteristics of the associated virtual library. This includes the capacity of the virtual tape and whether it uses Tape Smart Sizing.

Note

Because there is a one-to-one correlation between virtual tapes and physical tapes, it is important that the labels (virtual barcodes) of your virtual tapes match (including case) the barcodes of the corresponding physical tapes.
