Changes in This Release

Note: This topic describes changes in this release that are specific to FilerView. For general changes in this release of Data ONTAP, see the Data ONTAP Release Notes.

FilerView changes since the previous release of Data ONTAP include the following:

The new Audit Log page logs all administrative actions performed on a filer. You can see Audit Logs in the /etc/log/auditlog file.

See the FilerView help topics for these features for more information.

Changes in Data ONTAP 7.2.0

FilerView now supports the creation and management of FlexClone volumes. When the FlexClone license is installed, the Volumes menu includes a FlexClone Volumes submenu with links to the FlexClone wizard, the Manage FlexClone volumes page, and the FlexClone Volumes Hierarchy page, which helps you track the FlexClone hierarchies on your storage system by displaying an indented view of child FlexClone volumes for a selected flexible volume or FlexClone or of all the FlexClone volumes on the system.

The Manage Volumes page now also includes a field that indicates whether a volume displayed on the page is a FlexClone volume.

The new Host Name Resolution Policy wizard (Network > Configure Host Name Resolution (DNS & NIS)) enables you to enable, disable, and configure DNS and NIS settings on the storage system. Settings you can use the wizard to configure include whether you want DNS entries to be updated dynamically after the update interval and whether you want to enable an NIS slave on the storage system.

The Volume Restore wizard (Volumes > Restore) uses SnapRestore to revert an entire volume to its state when a specified snapshot was taken.

Attention: When a volume containing LUNs is restored, the LUNs must be taken offline or be unmapped prior to recovery. Using SnapRestore on a volume that contains LUNs without stopping all host access to those LUNs can cause data corruption and system errors.

The new Date/Time wizard helps you modify the system date and time manually or by using a time daemon to keep the system time synchronized with a time server. It is recommended that you use a time daemon, because problems can occur when the system clock is inaccurate. The time synchronizes the storage system date and time to an accuracy within one second of the date and time of the remote host.

Note: There is currently no Windows 95 or Windows NT counterpart for synchronization. You must have a UNIX workstation that supports remote synchronization on your storage system network.

From the Disk Report (Storage > Disks > Report), you can now scrub disks to check RAID group parity on RAID groups at the RAID group level, plex level, or aggregate or traditional volume level. Parity checking compares the data disks in a RAID group to the parity disk in a RAID group. If during the parity check Data ONTAP determines that parity is incorrect, Data ONTAP corrects the parity disk contents.

The Manage Initiator Security page (LUNs > iSCSI > Manage Initiator Security) has a new wizard that allows you to define default security settings for iSCSI initiators. Default security settings are used when an initiator attempts to access the system and no other security settings have been defined for the initiator.

The Volume Properties page (Volumes > Manage > volume_name) displays additional volume option values, including whether SnapMirror is currently being used to update the mirror, whether the visible .snapshot directory is enabled, various SnapValidator for Oracle settings, and whether the system performs additional status checking at boot time to verify that the NVRAM is in a valid state.

You can now delete empty qtrees using the Manage Qtrees page (Volumes > Qtrees >Manage).

You can now filter the display in the Manage Aggregates page (Aggregates > Manage) to show only aggregates containing flexible volumes, traditional volumes, or aggregates under SnapLock restriction.

See the FilerView help topics for these features for more information.
