Enable/Disable CIFS Services

In the Enable/Disable CIFS Services page, you can perform the following procedures:

Disabling storage system CIFS:

To disable CIFS for the entire storage system, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Delay Time field, enter a time, in whole minutes, that you want the storage system to wait before disabling CIFS.

When you disable CIFS for the entire storage system, the delay time is ignored if there are no active sessions; otherwise, the storage system attempts to notify existing sessions prior to termination.

  2. Click Disable.

Note: Notify connected CIFS users before you disable CIFS. If they are editing open files when you disable CIFS, they lose their changes since the last time they saved their files.

The storage system waits a period of time, as specified in the Delay Time field (for CIFS clients) field before it stops CIFS, if there are existing sessions, and displays the following message:

There is a pending shutdown.

Abort Shutdown

You can stop the shutdown of CIFS, if necessary, by clicking Abort Shutdown; otherwise, a message similar to the following is displayed:

Cifs is disabled

Disabling client CIFS:

To disable CIFS for an individual client PC, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Delay Time field, enter a time, in whole minutes, that you want the storage system to wait before disabling CIFS.

When you disable CIFS, the storage system attempts to notify the specified session (client PC) prior to termination.

  2. Click Disable.

The storage system waits a period of time, as specified in the Delay Time (for CIFS clients) field, and displays the following message before it disables CIFS:

There is a pending shutdown.

Abort Shutdown

You can stop the shutdown of CIFS, if necessary, by clicking Abort Shutdown; otherwise, a message similar to the following is displayed:

Cifs is disabled

Enabling CIFS:

To enable CIFS, complete the following step:

  1. Click Enable CIFS.

    Result:
A new page is displayed showing all session information and disabling parameters.
