The storage system requires a software license to enable the cluster service. The license is installed on the storage system at the factory per your order, so the initial setup of your storage system does not involve entering license codes.
You need to enter the cluster license code only if any of the following conditions applies:
You purchased a storage system with a release earlier than Data ONTAP 4.0 software and you are upgrading it.
You want to enable a cluster, which was not previously licensed for your storage system.
You reinstalled the file system on your storage system.
You are provided with the appropriate license codes when the software upgrade kit is shipped to you or when you are given instructions for obtaining the software upgrade over the Internet.
Note: The cluster license must be installed on both storage systems in a cluster.
