Configure HTTP

The Configure HTTP page configures the storage system for HTTP service.

If you purchased HTTP when you purchased the storage system, you already set up some of the configuration parameters for HTTP when you used setup to initialize the storage system.

If you did not purchase HTTP when you purchased the storage system, you need to purchase a new HTTP license to set up HTTP on the storage system.

Cluster considerations

In a cluster, either both storage systems or neither must be licensed for HTTP for takeover to occur properly.

The HTTP Timewait Enabled field and the Request Timeout field must each have the same value on both storage systems in a cluster for takeover to occur properly.

Configuration fields

There are several fields that can be configured when setting up HTTP.

Warning: If you disable HTTP (by setting the HTTP Administration or HTTP Enabled field to No), FilerView will no longer be accessible after you click Apply.

The following is a list of those fields and their descriptions.

HTTP

The storage system requires a software license to enable HTTP service. The license is installed on the storage system at the factory per your order, so the initial setup of your storage system does not involve entering a license code.

You need to enter a license code only if any of the following conditions applies:

HTTP Enabled

Warning: If you disable HTTP (by setting the HTTP Administration field to No), FilerView will no longer be accessible after you click Apply.

Stops or starts HTTP service immediately.

HTTP Administration

Warning: If you disable HTTP (by setting the HTTP Administration field to No), FilerView will no longer be accessible after you click Apply.

Provides or prevents access to the storage system's online Help files and other files used by FilerView.

HTTP Root Directory

Specifies the root directory that contains the files and directories to be read by HTTP clients.

When a user enters a URL on the storage system, the path component of the URL is a path name relative to the HTTP root directory.

Enter the complete path name, such as /vol/vol0/home/users/pages.

HTTP Timewait Enabled

When enabled, the storage system puts HTTP connections that were closed by the client into the TIME_WAIT state for one minute, which is twice the maximum segment lifetime.

By default, HTTP timewait is disabled and the TIME_WAIT state is bypassed for HTTP connections.

Request Timeout

Specifies the minimum amount of time, in seconds, before an idle HTTP connection times out.

Maximum Log File Size

Specifies the size of the /etc/log/httpd.log file to a value other than the default of 2147483647 bytes (2 GB minus 1 byte).
