By default, a host name resolution query begins with the local domain name, then with successive parent domains that have at least two components in their names. Data ONTAP attempts to resolve the host name using each component of the search path until it finds a match.
If you want to override the default domain search path, specify your own list of domains to search for host name resolution. You can use up to 256 characters to list up to six domains.
Note: Queries to resolve a host name can be slow and generate heavy network traffic if the servers for the listed domains are not local. A query can also time out if no server is available for one of the domains.
