Select the check box to enable NIS on the storage system.
Like DNS, NIS enables you to maintain host information centrally. NIS provides two methods for storage system host-name resolution:
Using a makefile master on the NIS server, which creates a /etc/hosts file and copies it to the storage system’s default volume for local host name lookup. See the Data ONTAP Network Management Guide for details.
Using a hosts map, maintained as a database on the NIS server, which the storage system queries in a host lookup request across the network. See the Data ONTAP Network Management Guide for details.
NIS also enables you to maintain user information. For more information, see the Data ONTAP System Administration Guide.
For takeover to occur properly in a cluster, NIS must be enabled on both systems or on neither system and the domain name must be the same on both systems.
