Manage Hosts File

The Manage Hosts File page you to manage the hosts file in the /etc directory. 

Data ONTAP uses the /etc/hosts file on the storage system's default volume, NIS, and DNS to resolve host names. If NIS and DNS are not enabled on the storage system, you must maintain the /etc/hosts file so that Data ONTAP can resolve host names used in any of the following files:

• /etc/rc

• /etc/syslog.conf

• /etc/dgateways

• /etc/exports

• /etc/netgroup

• /etc/hosts.equiv

Any changes made to the /etc/hosts file take place immediately. You do not need to reboot the storage system.
