NAME

hosts.equiv - list of hosts and users with rsh permission

SYNOPSIS

/etc/hosts.equiv

DESCRIPTION

The hosts.equiv file contains a list of hosts (and users on those hosts) that have permission to connect to the filer's remote shell daemon (see na_rshd(8)). Each line in hosts.equiv has the format:

hostname [ username ]

If no user name is specified, then the line indicates that root on the specified host can connect to the filer's remote shell daemon.

Since the only local user the filer recognizes is root, a non-root remote user must type:

adminhost% rsh -l root toaster command

Use multiple lines to grant access to multiple users on the same host.

EXAMPLE

The following hosts.equiv file allows both root and joe_smith to access the filer from adminhost:

adminhost
adminhost joe_smith

With the above hosts.equiv entries, the root user on the remote system would type:

adminhost# rsh toaster command

and user joe_smith would type:

adminhost% rsh -l root toaster command
