pcnfsd - (PC)NFS authentication request server
pcnfsd provides a personal computer NFS client with the
authentication services. This release supports version 1 of
the PCNFSD protocol.
When pcnfsd receives a PCNFSD_AUTH request, it will register
the user by validating the user name and password and
returning the corresponding UID and GID pair.
- /etc/passwd
- This file should be in the format used on
many flavors of UNIX (SunOS 4.x and later,
4.4BSD, System V Release 4 and later, and
others).
- /etc/shadow
- This file should be in the format used on
many flavors of UNIX (SunOS 5.x and later,
System V Release 4 and later, and others).
na_options(1)
When the call fails, pcnfsd doesn't fake by setting the UID
and the GID to acceptable values. Passwords that have been
encrypted using Kerberos are not supported. As the filer
does not support NIS, a current copy of the /etc/passwd (and
/etc/shadow) file(s) should be available on it. Many
administrators modify the Makefile for the NIS hosts map to
update hosts automatically when the NIS map changes:
cp /etc/passwd /nfs/toaster/etc/passwd
cp /etc/shadow /nfs/toaster/etc/shadow (if applicable)
On non-NIS systems, there could be a cron job to do the
above.
