Creating new shares

To create a share, use the -add form:

cifs shares -add sharename path description

This will create a new share.

sharename is the name of the share; clients will use this name to access the share.

path
is the pathname, relative to the root of the filer's file system, of the root directory of the share.

description is a required protocol feature. It is displayed in the shares list in the Network Neighborhood when the share is displayed. If it includes spaces, then it must be surrounded with quotes.

Deleting existing shares
To delete a share, use the -delete form:

  cifs shares -delete sharename

sharename is the name of the share to be deleted. A share cannot be deleted if it is in use.

Changing descriptions of existing shares
To change the description of a share, use the -change form:

  cifs shares -change sharename description

This changes the description of the share named sharename from its current value to the value in description. If the description includes spaces, then it must be surrounded with quotes. The description of a share may be changed even if the share is in use.
