DNS Enabled
The filer includes DNS client capabilities so it can query DNS servers for host-name-to-IP-address and IP-address-to-host-name translation services. When DNS is enabled you don't have to update the filer's /etc/hosts file every time a new host is added to the network. If you use the default search order or specify "files" before "DNS," you still have to update the /etc/hosts file if one of its entries changes before the filer tries to resolve host names. To prevent naming inconsistencies, Network Appliance recommends that when DNS is enabled, you use only the default /etc/hosts file.
Before you enable DNS, you must set the DNS domain and the /etc/resolv.conf file must exist.
Domain Name
Sets the DNS domain name to the specified domain name.
Servers
Specifies the IP addresses of the DNS servers to be contacted for address resolution. Up to three name servers may be listed. The resolver queries them in the order listed. When a query to a name server on the list times out, the resolver moves to the next one until it gets to the bottom of the list. If the address is still not resolved, it restarts from the top to retry all the name servers until a maximum number of retries are made.
