This window configures network interfaces. After you make a change, click the Save Changes button to save the changes to the filer. To view the changes that you made, click the View Changes button. To reload the current settings from the filer, click the Reload button.
The configurable fields in this window are:
The filer runs a simple routing daemon, routed, which is enabled at boot time. This daemon "listens" for Routing Information Protocol (RIP) packets being exchanged between routers on the network to determine which routers are alive. From the routers that are alive, the daemon selects the one with the highest preference to use as the filer's default router.
However, the filer doesn't rely on routed to construct the routing table. The function of the filer's routed is merely to check the status of the default router.
You can add potential default routers at any time to the /etc/dgateways file. For each added router, you should also specify the metric, which is a number indicating the preference for the router. The highest preference is 1, which is also the default preference for the router specified during system setup. The lowest preference is 15.
Allows the filer to discover and use the largest packet size that the filer can send to another host without fragmenting a packet. This means that the filer doesn't have to limit itself to sending many small packets, which takes more time and resources than sending fewer large packets. By default, the MTU is 4352 on an FDDI interface, 1500 on an Ethernet interface, and 9188 on an ATM interface.
