NAME

disk_fw_update - update disk firmware

SYNOPSIS

disk_fw_update [ disk_name ]

DESCRIPTION

disk_fw_update updates the firmware on all disks or a specified disk on a filer. The command is available only after you boot the filer from floppy and choose option 2 (Boot without /etc/rc) from the menu.

The firmware file to be downloaded to disks must reside in the /etc directory. The name of the file is in the form of model.LOD. For example, if the firmware is for Seagate drives with product ID ST19171FC, the name of the firmware file in the /etc directory is ST19171FC.LOD. The file name is case-sensitive.

To download the firmware to all disks, enter disk_fw_update without any arguments. To download the firmware to a particular disk, specify the name of the disk in the command. The disk name is in the form of adapter_number.disk_ID. For example, if the disk ID is 1 and the disk is on adapter 8a, enter the following command:

disk_fw_update 8a.1

The command is applicable to both SCSI disks and fibre channel disks. To determine disk firmware versions, enter the sysconfig -v command.

After you successfully download the firmware to disks, delete the firmware file from the /etc directory. A firmware file resides in the /etc directory only temporarily for the disk_fw_update command.
