Quotas (/etc/quotas)
This window allows you to view and edit the /etc/quotas file. The filer reads the /etc/quotas file to determine how to apply quotas. Filer quotas restrict disk space and the number of files used by a given user or group. Quotas can also restrict disk space and the number of files used in a quota tree. A quota tree is a directory under the root directory of a volume.
The window provides the following information about the disk quotas in the /etc/quotas file:
- Quota Target field specifies the user, group, or tree on which you want to impose restrictions. You can assign more than one quota to a user or group, but only one quota to a tree. The entries can be in any order.
- Type field defines the quota type, which can be user, group, or tree. A user or group quota can be defined for a particular tree or a particular volume.
- The Disk field specifies the maximum amount of disk space that the quota target can use. In this field, K is equivalent to 1024 bytes, M means 2^20 bytes, and G means 2^30 bytes.
- Files field specifies the maximum number of files that the quota target can use. K means 1024. For example, 75K means 76,800 files. A blank means there is no restriction on the number of files that the quota target can use.
The Quotas window provides buttons that allow you to create new disk quotas, and modify or delete existing disk quotas. The window provides the following buttons:
- Reload. Click this button to load the existing /etc/quotas file from the filer.
- Save. Click this button to save the changes to the /etc/quotas file. You do not have to reboot the filer for the changes to take effect. The changes take place immediately. However, if you create a quota target or make changes to a quota target that does not have an active quota, it takes a while for the filer to compute disk usage for each quota target and put the changes into effect.
- Insert. Click anywhere in the display box and click Insert to add a new disk quota to the /etc/quotas file.
- Modify. Click the appropriate disk quota in the display box and click Modify to modify the information for a disk quota in the /etc/quotas file.
- Delete. Click the appropriate disk quota in the display box and click Delete to delete a disk quota from the /etc/quotas file.
