This window enables you to view and modify the configuration
information about network interfaces on the filer.
The following list describes the network interface information displayed on the first
line for each interface:
- Interface
- The name the filer automatically assigns to the interfaces installed in the filer. The
filer uses the following naming convention:
- Ethernet interface names start with the letter e followed by the slot number
(for example, e0) and the port number if the network card has more than one port
(for example, a quad-port Ethernet card has four interfaces named e1a, e1b,
e1c, and e1d).
- FDDI interface names start with the letter f followed by the slot number (for
example, f1 and f2).
- ATM interface names start with the letter a followed by the slot number (for
example, a5).
- The loopback address is shown as lo.
- The virtual host name is shown as vh.
- Flags
- The state of the interface.
- MTU
- The maximum transmission unit (MTU). By default, the MTU is 4,352 on an FDDI interface,
1,500 on an Ethernet interface, and 9,188 on an ATM interface.
The following list describes the network interface information displayed on the second
line for each interface except the loopback interface and the virtual host:
- MAC Address
- The 12-digit hexadecimal physical address of the interface.
- Media
- The physical media connecting the filer to the network.
The following list describes the network interface information
displayed on the third line for each interface:
- the IP address of the interface.
- the subnet mask for the interface
- the broadcast address for the interface
The following list describes how to use the buttons in this window
to modify the network interface information:
- Reload
- Reloads the current network interface configuration information from the filer.
- Add Alias
- Specifies an IP address for the following types of interfaces:
- physical interface: Use this button to specify an additional IP address for the
interface. This is useful when you need to change the IP address of an interface and you
want the interface to continue receiving packets destined for the old address.
- virtual host: Use this button to specify an IP address for a virtual host.
- Delete Alias
- Removes the alias IP address specified with the Add Alias button.
- Modify
- Click the appropriate interface in the display and click Modify to change the
configuration of the selected interface.
