A cluster interconnect adapter provides an interface between two filers through two external ports: the X port and the Y port. When two filers with cluster interconnect interfaces are connected using a cluster interconnect cable, they form a cluster.
Note: The cluster interconnect adapter must be installed in the specified expansion slot for your filer.
To install a cluster interconnect adapter in your filer, follow these steps.
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 |
For an F630Identify backplane expansion slot 10.For an F700 series filerIdentify expansion slot 8 on the motherboard. |
| 2 |
For an F630Remove the faceplate screw holding the slot cover to the back panel of the backplane carrier and save the screw for installing the cluster interconnect adapter. For an F700 series filerRemove the faceplate screw holding the slot cover to the back panel of the PCB (printed circuit board) carrier and save the screw for installing the cluster interconnect adapter. |
| 3 | Hold the adapter by its top edge, with the faceplate near your left hand. |
| 4 |
Lower the adapter into expansion slot until the faceplate is in position against the back panel and covers the endplate slot on the back panel.
|
| 5 | Press carefully on the top edge of the adapter until the edge connector is seated in expansion slot. |
| 6 | Repeat Steps 1 through 5 for the partner filer. |
| 7 | If you have a differential wide SCSI adapter for external tape devices installed in expansion slot 6, proceed with "Moving or replacing an adapter." If not, proceed with "Installing an FC-AL adapter." |
