Worksheet 2: Administration host

About this worksheet

The administration host is a client that is authorized to access the filer for administration purposes. The administration host can do the following tasks:

Mount the filer's root directory (/) as an NFS client (if the filer is licensed for the NFS protocol).
Access the filer's root directory as a Windows shared directory, C$ (if the filer is licensed for the CIFS protocol).
Access the filer's virtual console remote using a remote shell (rsh) program or a Telnet client.
Manage the filer using the FilerView Web-based tool.

If you do not assign an administration host, any client using a licensed protocol (NFS or CIFS) can perform the preceding tasks.

Note: After you complete the first-time configuration, you can grant additional hosts administration privileges by modifying the NFS exports or the CIFS shares.
