During first-time configuration, the setup command creates a default volume. The default size for the default volume is 2 disks, but you can specify that the volume contain from 2 to 14 disks.
If you specify a default volume size of less than 14 disks, you can add disks to the volume after your filer configuration is complete by following the instructions in Chapter 3, "Managing disks and file systems," in the System Administrator's Guide.
If your filer only has 14 disks installed and want to take advantage of the multiple-volume support in Data ONTAP, you should specify 12 or fewer disks for the default volume.
WARNING: If you plan to create additional volumes after the filer is set up, do not allocate all your disks to the default volume; this ensures that disks remain available for the additional volumes.
