Use this procedure to have all directories created in Unicode format. This eliminates time lags due to conversion when a directory populated by UNIX users is then accessed by Windows users. It also allows new directories created by UNIX to be accessible to CIFS when they appear in a snapshot. You should do this immediately after installing Data ONTAP 5.3. After you complete this procedure, all directories that you create are in Unicode format, and their files are accessible to CIFS clients.
To force all directories to be created in Unicode format, complete the following step.
