Cluster Status Field

Displays the status of the cluster, including takeover and giveback messages:
  • A successful takeover ends with a message like the following:
Tue Jul 21 23:03:22 GMT [filer1: cf_takeover]: Cluster monitor: takeover completed
  • A successful giveback ends with a message like the following:
Tue Jul 21 22:37:35 GMT [filer1: cf_giveback]: Cluster monitor: giveback completed

The live filer waits for the failed filer to reboot, then continues with the following messages:

Tue Jul 21 22:38:35 GMT [filer1: cf_main]: Cluster monitor: partner ok
Tue Jul 21 22:38:35 GMT [filer1: cf_main]: Cluster monitor: takeover of partner enabled

The last message indicates that the filers are operating normally.

Buttons

The buttons perform the actions shown in the following table.

Button Action
Reload Status Refreshes the Cluster Status information.
Enable Takeover Enables takeover for the cluster. This is the default; use it after you disabled takeover.
Disable Takeover Disables takeover for the cluster.
Initiate Takeover Starts the takeover process.
Initiate Giveback Starts the giveback process, which is the return of the identity of the partner from the virtual filer to the partner.
Initiate Giveback and Clean Up Terminates the following events on the virtual filer, then initiates a giveback to the failed filer:
  • Dump processes
  • Outstanding CIFS sessions
  • Parity checks
  • RAID reconstructs
  • RAID scrubs
  • Vol creates

Force Takeover Ignores any minor configuration problems that otherwise prevents a takeover, such as unsynchronized NVRAM due to a faulty interconnect connection, and initiates a takeover of the partner of the local filer.

CAUTION: Use this button only in desperate circumstances, such as when you cannot complete a takeover with the Initiate Takeover button. This button forces a takeover in circumstances where a normal takeover would fail. You can lose data with this command.

Force Giveback Forces the local filer to perform a giveback even though it detects an error that would prevent a complete giveback, such as data not being flushed from NVRAM to the partner’s disks.

When the partner reboots as a result of a forced giveback, it displays the following message:

partner giveback incomplete, some data may be lost

CAUTION: Use this button only in desperate circumstances, such as when you cannot complete a giveback with the Initiate Giveback button. This button forces a giveback in circumstances where a normal giveback would fail. You can lose data with this command.
