This window enables you to view and edit the /etc/quotas
file. The filer reads the /etc/quotas file to determine how to apply quotas.
Filer quotas restrict disk space and the number of files used by a quota target, which can
be a user, a group, or a qtree.
The following list describes the fields in the /etc/quotas file:
- Quota Target
- Specifies the user, group, or qtree on which you want to impose restrictions. You can
assign more than one quota to a user or group, but only one quota to a tree. The entries
can be in any order.
- Type
- Specifies the quota type, which can be user, group, or tree. A user or group quota can
be defined for a particular tree or a particular volume.
- Disk
- Specifies the maximum amount of disk space that the quota target can use. K is
equivalent to 1,024 bytes, M means 2^20 bytes, and G means 2^30 bytes.
- Files
- Specifies the maximum number of files that the quota target can use. K means 1024. For
example, 75K means 76,800 files. A blank means there is no restriction on the number of
files that the quota target can use.
This window provides the following buttons for you to edit the /etc/quotas
file:
- Reload
- Loads the existing /etc/quotas file from the filer.
- Save
- Saves the changes to the /etc/quotas file. You do not have to reboot the filer
for the changes to take effect; the changes take place immediately. However, if you create
a quota target or make changes to a quota target that does not have an active quota, it
takes a while for the filer to compute disk usage for each quota target and put the
changes into effect.
- Insert
- Adds a new disk quota to the /etc/quotas file. For this button to insert a
quota to the file, you must first click anywhere in the window that displays the file. For
more information about how to insert an entry, click the HELP button in the dialog box
invoked by the Insert button.
- Modify
- Modifies the quota entry you selected in the /etc/quotas file. Select an entry
by clicking it. For more information about how to modify an entry, click the HELP button
in the dialog box invoked by the Modify button.
- Delete
- Removes a selected disk quota from the /etc/quotas file. Select an entry by
clicking it.
