This window enables you to view and edit
the /etc/hosts.equiv file. The filer reads the /etc/hosts.equiv file to
determine whether a remote host (or a remote host and users on the host) is allowed to do
the following tasks:
- connect to the filer through the remote shell (
rsh) protocol
- back up the filer
- copy a volume to or from the filer
If a host is listed in this file, the host is considered a trusted host. If a user on a
host is listed in this file, the user is considered a trusted user.
If you plan to connect to the filer through rsh from a PC, in addition to specifying
the PC as a trusted host, you must specify the name of the PC user as a trusted user in
the /etc/hosts.equiv file. The user name is required even though the filer
accepts rsh connections only from the root user.
The window displays the following information in the /etc/hosts.equiv file:
- Host/IP
- The name or the IP address of the trusted host.
- User (on host)
- The name of the trusted user.
- Comment
- The comment associated with the host or the host-user pair.
