This window enables you to view and edit the /etc/syslog.conf file. The /etc/syslog.conf
file controls the logging of system messages. Based on their severity and origin, system
messages can be directed to the console, to a file, or to a remote system. By default, all
system messages (except for those of severity level debug) are written to
the console and to the /etc/messages file.
This window provides the following types of information about the way the filer logs
system messages:
- Action
- The place to forward the received message when it originates from the specified facility
and is of the specified level or higher. An action can be the pathname of a file
(beginning with a slash), a remote host (beginning with the @ sign), or the console
(/dev/console or the * sign).
- Priority
- The severity of the condition from which the message was generated (for example,
emergency, alert, critical, and so on).
- Facility
- The subsystem from which the message originated (for example, filer kernel, filer
daemons, and so on).
This window provides buttons that enables you to create a new action, enter new
comments, and modify and delete actions and selectors in the /etc/syslog.conf
file. The buttons are described in the following list:
- Reload
- Click this button to reload the existing /etc/syslog.conf file from the filer.
