This section describes how the filer displays tape drive information about different types of tape drives. You need the tape information for planning your backup.
This section does not describe how to display information about tape drives on remote hosts. The filer can only display information about local tape drives.
Qualified tape drives are the tape drives that Network Appliance tests with the filer. These tape drives are on the Network Appliance price list.
Nonqualified tape drives are the tape drives that Network Appliance has not tested with the filer. The filer can boot with nonqualified tape drives. However, for the filer to write to the drives, you must include information about the tape drive in the /etc/cloned_tapes file.
The /etc/cloned_tapes file enables the filer to register the drive as a clone of a qualified drive. If this file does not exist when the filer boots with a nonqualified tape drive, the filer creates the file.
Specify each entry of the /etc/cloned_tapes file in one of the following formats:
The following example is an entry of the /etc/cloned_tapes file:
QUANTUM DLT9000 EMULATES QUANTUM DLT7000
