This window enables, disables, and configures the SNMP daemon on the filer.

To reload the current settings from the filer, click the Reload Settings button. To view the changes that you made, click the View Changes button. After you make a change, click the Save Changes button to save the changes to the filer.

SNMP capabilities

For diagnostic and other network management services, the filer supports the SNMP version 1 compatible agent. This agent supports both MIB-II (RFC 1213) and the Network Appliance custom MIB.

MIB II groups

The following list describes the groups in MIB-II:

  • system
  • interfaces
  • address translation
  • IP
  • ICMP
  • TCP
  • UDP

The following list describes the groups in the Network Appliance custom MIB:

product
Product-level information, such as the Data ONTAP version string and system ID.
sysStat
System-level statistics, such as CPU uptime, idle time, and aggregate kilobytes received and transmitted on all network interfaces.
nfs
Statistics about NFS, including statistics for each client if per-client NFS statistics are enabled. The per-client NFS statistics are indexed by client IP addresses.
quota
Information related to disk quotas, provided that quotas are enabled.
filesys
Information related to the file system, including the maximum number of files, disk space information, and some information about existing snapshots.
raid
Information about RAID groups.

About traps

You use traps to inspect the value of MIB variables periodically and send an SNMP trap to the machines on the traphost list whenever that value meets the conditions you specify. The traphost list specifies network management stations that receive trap information.

Configuring the SNMP agent

The following list describes the fields for configuring the SNMP agent:

SNMP Enabled

Yes enables SNMP and initializes the SNMP daemon with the values set in this window. It also sends out a coldStart trap when the filer reboots.

No disables SNMP.

Traps Enabled

Yes enables sending trap information. You use this when you have a client that can process SNMP traps.

No causes the filer to not send SNMP trap information. You select this when you process SNMP traps.

Auth Traps

Yes sends SNMP agent authentication failure traps to all hosts specified in the Traphosts field.

No causes the filer to not send such traps.

Contact

Type into this field the email address, telephone number, and optionally the name of the person responsible for the filer (for example, jdoe@abc.com, 415-555-1212). The email address and telephone number enable Network Appliance Technical Support to contact the right person after receiving an automatic email through autosupport from your site concerning your filer status.

Location

Type into this field the physical location of the filer (for example, ABC corporation, engineering lab). This value is returned by the SNMP agent.

Communities

In the field under Communities, select read-only or Undefined.

Read-only gives read-only access to the community next to it.

Undefined means that access has not been explicitly specified.  If you supply a community, the access changes to read-only after you save changes to the settings.

In the field next to the access right, type the name of a community you want to have access to SNMP. Currently, the SNMP SetRequest PDU is not supported, so all communities have read-only access. The default community for the filer SNMP agent is public and its access mode is read-only.

Traphosts

Type in the names of IP addresses of up to eight recipients of all SNMP traps from the filer.
