When you remove a disk shelf fan, the power on the disk shelf can remain on. When a fan fails for any reason, the other two fans increase in speed to compensate for the lack of the third fan.

Removing a disk shelf fan

To remove a disk shelf fan, complete the following steps.

Step	Action
1	Put on an ESD wrist strap and grounding leash.
2	Loosen the captive thumbscrews on both sides of the fan by turning them counterclockwise.
3	Pull the fan away from the disk shelf with both hands. WARNING The fan blades might still be spinning, be sure to keep your fingers away from the rotating blades.
