Updating your software and firmware

Back up all your data.

Verify that both filers have network connections.

Update each filer to the latest version of the Data ONTAP software. See the System Administrator's Guide for more information.

The latest version of Data ONTAP also includes the latest version of the disk firmware.

If needed, update your disk shelf firmware as follows:

At the console of the filer that owns the disk shelf, update the disk firmware by entering the following command:

disk_fw_update

Note
The disk_fw_update command only upgrades disks for which firmware files are present in the /etc/disk_fw directory. It does not upgrade other disks.

Caution
To avoid client drop-off, do not upgrade disk firmware on an active filer because disks can take up to two minutes to complete the update. The disk_fw_update man page provides information about how to perform this operation.
