Cabling your system into a cluster

Basic filer configuration  Top

The basic configuration for a cluster is a minimum of two Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) adapters per filer. You can add two additional FC-AL cards per filer. You must also add one cluster interconnect adapter per filer. This adapter enables you to cluster your filers together. You might also need to add LRC cards to your disk shelves for the Channel B loops. For further information about other components you receive, see the F700 Series Hardware Guide.

Mixed disk shelf environments  Top

If you are converting filers that have both FC9 and FC7 disk shelves, you must assign the first FC7 disk shelf as shelf 0. See the Fibre Channel StorageShelf FC9 Hardware Guide for information about mixed disk shelf environment cabling.

Status of existing fibre channel loops  Top

The existing fibre channel loop on each of your filers is a Channel A loop in your cluster configuration.
