Certain versions of your hardware or software might require updating before you can convert your filers to a clustered system. You must determine what hardware, software, and firmware exists on your filers, then check them against the requirements for converting your filers into a cluster. See the NOW Web page at http://now.netapp.com for the most current version requirements for clustering.
There are two types of information you should gather: hardware and operating system information and networking information. You can gather this information by using the sysconfig and ifconfig commands on both filers you are converting.
The sysconfig -v command displays your system hardware configuration. See the System Administrator's Guide for more information about this command. When you run this command, you should note the following information displayed in the output:
You should also note your current network interface settings, using the ifconfig -a command. See the System Administrator's Guide for more information about this command. You should note the following information:
Note
If you want to implement trunking on your cluster, see the System Administrator's Guide for a discussion and procedures for setting up virtual interfaces (vifs).
To check your system information, complete the following steps.
| 1 | At the console of each filer, enter the following command: sysconfig -v ResultThe filer configuration is displayed, similar to the following: ha15> sysconfig -v NetApp Release 6.4: Wed Dec 11 01:33:09 PST 2002 System ID: 0033554550 (metro1); partner ID: 0033554438 (ha16) Backplane Part Number: 110-02405 . |
| 2 | Compare the information gathered from Step 1 with the information listed in System requirements and against the configuration information listed on the NOW Web site. Determine what you need to update, then go to Hardware and software updates. |
