Removing clustering hardware

About removing clustering hardware  Top

Removing clustering hardware is a three-part process:

Recabling Channel B for redundant disk loops  Top

To recable your Channel B loops and convert your cluster to stand-alone filers, complete the following steps.

Note
This procedure assumes that you have DS14 disk shelves and dual Fibre Channel adapters.

Step

Action

1

Halt both filers by entering the following command at each console:

halt
1

Ground yourself, then power off the nodes and disk shelves.

2

Unplug the local node from the partner node's Channel B disk shelf and do the same for the partner node.

3

Connect the local node to the open Channel B loop in its local disk shelves.

4

Repeat Step 3 for the partner node.

5

Go to Removing the clustering hardware.

Removing the clustering hardware  Top

To remove the clustering hardware and extra FC-AL adapters, complete the following steps.

Step

Action

1

Ground yourself, using the antistatic wrist strap.

2

Remove the cluster interconnect cables if you have cluster interconnect adapters, or the VI cluster adapter cable if you have VI cluster adapters.

3

Open the back of the local node, as described in the F800 Series Hardware Guide.

4

If you have...

Then...

Cluster interconnect adapters

  1. Unscrew the adapter from the chassis.
  2. Remove the cluster interconnect adapter.
  3. Replace the slot cover and secure it with the screw from the adapter.

VI cluster adapters

  1. Unlock and remove the GBIC from the adapter.
  2. Unscrew the adapter from the chassis.
  3. Remove the VI cluster adapter.
  4. Replace the slot cover and secure it with the screw from the adapter.
5

Remove any extra FC-AL or dual Fibre Channel adapters.

6

Close the back of the filer and secure the back of the filer, as described in the F800 Series Hardware Guide.

7

Power on the disk shelves, then the filer. Press the Del key to boot to the OK prompt.

8

Unset the partner sysid by entering the following command at the OK prompt:

unsetenv partner-sysid
9

Boot the filer by entering the following command at the OK prompt:

boot
10

Check the status of clustering on the filer by entering the following command on the console:

cf status
Result

Cluster monitoring is disabled, as indicated by the following message:

Cluster disabled
11

Repeat Steps 1 through 10 for the partner node.
