Cabling a new MetroCluster

Step 6: Setting up and configuring the remote part of the cluster

Setting up the remote node  Top

To set up the remote portion of the MetroCluster, complete the following steps, using the illustration for reference.

Step

Action

1

Install the node, disks, and switch in the equipment rack or system cabinet at the remote site, as described in Step 2: Installing and preparing the local node and disk shelves.

2

Configure the switch, as described in Step 3: Configuring the switch.

3

Connect the SFPs to the ports on the target ports on the switch, then connect the ISL cables to the same ports as used in the local switch.

Example

If Metro1_switch uses ports 14 and 15, Metro2_switch must use ports 14 and 15 for the ISL connection.

Note
Zone information is transferred from the local switch to the remote switch after communication between the two switches is established.

4

Check to make sure that there is a single fabric between the switches by entering the following command:

fabricshow
Example

tort1_8:admin> fabricshow
Switch ID Worldwide Name      Enet IP Addr FC IP Addr
Name
--------------------------------------------------------
111: fffc6f 10:00:00:60:69:00:60:11 172.27.100.85 0.0.0.0
"metro1_switch"
222: fffcde 10:00:00:60:69:00:60:12 172.27.100.86 0.0.0.0
"metro2_switch"
5

Enable the ports on the switch by entering the following command:

portenable #

# is the number of the port that you want enabled.

6

Save the configuration by entering the following command:

cfgsave
7

Check the configuration by entering the following command:

cfgshow
8

Confirm and enable the configuration by entering the following command:

cfgenable
9

Connect the local disk, pool 0 of the mirror, by completing the following steps:

  1. Connect the Channel A loop by cabling one end of an SC/LC FC-AL to disk shelf cable to Port 2 on the FC HBA for Disks adapter in slot 5, and the other end of the cable to the Channel A LRC of the local disk shelf. In the example, the local disk shelf is identified as M2_local.
  2. Connect the Channel B loop by cabling one end of an SC/LC disk shelf-to-switch cable to the Channel B In port on the disk shelf and the other end to the switch port for the local disk. The example shows switch port Port 3.
10

Connect the partner's remote disk, pool 1 of the mirror, by completing the following steps:

  1. Connect the Channel A loop by cabling an SC/LC disk shelf-to- switch cable to the Channel A port of the partner disk shelf and the other end to the switch port for the partner disk. The example shows switch port 2.
  2. Connect the Channel B loop by connecting an SC/LC FC-AL to disk shelf cable to Port 2 on the FC HBA for Disks adapter in slot 7 and the other end to the In port of the Channel B LRC of the partner disk.
11

Connect the FC-AL adapters to the switch by completing the following steps:

  1. Connect the switch to the FC-AL adapter by cabling one end of an LC/LC FC-AL to switch cable to Port 1 on the FC HBA for Disks adapter in slot 5, and the other end to the port on the switch reserved for the adapter. The example shows switch port 1.
  2. Connect the switch to the FC-AL adapter by cabling one end of an LC/LC FC-AL to switch cable to Port 1 on the FC HBA for Disks adapter in slot 7 and the other end of the cable to the port on the switch reserved for the adapter. The example shows switch port 4.
12

Make sure that you terminate each desk shelf on all the loops.
