Cabling a MetroCluster

The major differences between a MetroCluster and a typical mirrored cluster are as follows:

MetroCluster local and partner nodes are physically separated by between 30 and 500 meters, or between 500 meters and 10 kilometers, and communicate with switches.
Both nodes are typically located at separate sites.
MetroClusters require different cables between the VI cluster adapters and also between the remote disk shelves and local nodes. See Required hardware and cables for cable requirements.
MetroClusters perform additional error checking between the local and partner nodes and their respective disk pools through the cluster_remote utility.
If a remote site is down and is inaccessible, you can force takeover through the cf takeover -d command.

To cable a MetroCluster, complete the following steps.

Step	Action
1	Prepare your sites, as described in Planning your mirrored cluster.
2	Cable the Channel A loops of the MetroCluster, as described in Step 1: Cabling the Channel A loop.
3	Cable the nodes together, as described in Step 2: Cabling the nodes together.
4	Cable the Channel B loops of the MetroCluster, as described in Step 3: Cabling the Channel B loop.
5	Configure the cluster, as described in Step 4: Completing setup and testing your mirrored cluster. Make sure that you enable the syncmirror_local and cluster_remote licenses on both nodes.
