Cabling a new MetroCluster
Step 3: Configuring the switch
Tasks for configuring the switch
To configure the Brocade 3800 or 3200 switch for clustering, you must complete the following tasks:
- Configure the switch
- Connect the switch
- Enable and configure the qloop feature, set up zoning, and create the configuration
Configuring the switch
To configure a switch for a MetroCluster, follow the procedures for switch configuration on the NOW site at http://now.netapp.com/.
Connecting the ISLs
To connect the switch to the two ISL (Inter Switch Link) cables, complete the following steps.
Step
|
Action
|
|
1 |
Connect the long distance SFPs to the switch, making sure that the key is on top, pushing firmly until it is seated and the latch clicks.
Example
The first ISL is cabled into Port 14 on the switch.
|
|
2 |
Connect one of the LC/LC ISL cables to the SFP in a selected port. Note the port, because the other end of the ISL cable must be connected to the corresponding port on the partner's switch.
|
|
3 |
Connect another LC/LC ISL cable to an SFP, to ensure redundancy.
Example
The second ISL is cabled into Port 15 on the switch.
|
|
4 |
Check the switch by entering the following command on the console:
switchshow
Result
The output shows the current switch configuration for the ISL connection, as shown in the following example:
admin> switchshow
switchName: Metro1_switch
switchType: 16.2
switchState: Online
switchMode: Native
switchRole: Principal
switchDomain: 111
switchId: fffcde
switchWwn: 10:00:00:60:69:00:60:11
switchBeacon: OFF
Zoning: OFF
|
|
5 |
Disable the switch by entering the following command on the console:
switchdisable
|
|
6 |
Set the distance and speeds for the ISL ports.
See the NOW Web site at http://now.netapp.com for the specific configuration procedures.
