About system components

An F800 series filer system consists of an F810, F820, F825, F840, or F880 filer and connected disk shelves.

To gather all the hardware components for your filer system, you need to

Check the contents of your shipment package
Gather the system components

Checking shipment package contents

Make sure that your shipment package includes the following items, in addition to this F800 Series Hardware Guide:

One filer ordered to your network and storage specifications
A DB-9 to DB-9 straight-through serial cable for an ASCII terminal connection
Cables for connecting the filer to the disk shelves
A braided copper cable and Phillips head screws (provided with the filer by Network Appliance) for
- Grounding the filer when there is a second or third Fibre Channel loop
- Grounding the filer to disk shelf 0 in the first loop when the distance between the filer and disk shelf 0 exceeds 8m

Gathering other components

Disk shelves

You can use previously purchased Fibre Channel disk shelves with your F800 series filer. The System Configuration Guide at http://now.netapp.com lists the Fibre Channel disk shelves supported by the F800 series filers.

Tape backup device

You can use a new or previously purchased third-party tape backup device with your F800 series filer. The System Configuration Guide at http://now.netapp.com lists the tape backup devices supported by the F800 series filers.
