About connecting to third-party tape backup devices

Supported types of tape backup devices  

Your filer can connect to a third-party SCSI tape backup device or to a third-party Fibre Channel switch that you connect to a third-party FC-AL tape backup device. See the System Configuration Guide at http://now.netapp.com for the tape backup devices supported by your platform.

Note
Check the System Configuration Guide to verify support for your tape backup device. An unsupported tape backup device might cause the filer to halt.

Rules for connecting the third-party devices  

Observe the following rules for connecting the third-party devices:

• Use a cable that is
  • Appropriate to the tape adapter installed in your filer
  • Of an approved length for the third-party device

• Check the System Configuration Guide at http://now.netapp.com for the expansion slots assigned for the tape adapters in your platform.
