Connecting the filer to an ASCII terminal console

About the ASCII terminal console  Top

The ASCII terminal console enables you to monitor the boot process and helps you configure the filer after it boots. You must use an attached ASCII terminal for local system administration and not the onboard VGA adapter. The onboard VGA adapter is an unused port on the F85.

This section describes how to attach an ASCII terminal console to the COM1 port of your F85.

ASCII terminal console cable wiring  Top

The ASCII terminal console is connected to the filer through the serial port labeled COM1, on the back of the filer. The following table lists how the DB-9 serial cable is wired to handle data. Input indicates data flow from the ASCII terminal to the filer and output indicates data flow from the filer to the ASCII terminal.
