Connecting a third-party SCSI tape backup device
Guidelines for connecting third-party tape backup devices
The following list specifies guidelines for successfully connecting third-party tape backup devices to the filer:
- Check the System Configuration Guide at http://now.netapp.com to verify that your tape backup device is supported. Connecting an unsupported tape backup device can cause your filer to halt.
- Use the appropriate type and length cable for the tape backup device. The maximum cable length supported by the SCSI adapter is 2 meters.

Set the SCSI ID on the tape backup device.
See the device documentation for instructions about how to set the tape backup ID.

If you do not have a robotic loader, go to Step 5.

Connect one end of the SCSI cable to the top SCSI adapter port in slot 4 of the filer, then connect the other end of the cable to the input port on the tape backup device.
|
|
6 |
Tighten the thumbscrews on the cable ends.
|
|
7 |
Terminate any open ports on the tape backup device with an active SCSI terminator.
