Required documentation

The following table lists and briefly describes the documentation you might need to reference when preparing a new cluster, or converting two stand-alone systems into a clustered system.

System Cabinet Guide	This guide describes how to install NetApp equipment into a system cabinet.
Site Requirements Guide	This guide describes the physical requirements your site must meet in order to install NetApp equipment.
The appropriate disk shelf Guide	These guides describe how to cable a disk shelf to NetApp appliances.
FAS900 Series Hardware and Service Guide	This guide describes how to install an FAS900 Series appliance, connect it to a network, and bring it up for the first time.
NetApp Diagnostics Guide	This guide describes the diagnostics tests than can be run on the appliance.
Upgrade Guide	This guide describes how to upgrade appliance and disk firmware, and how to upgrade appliance software.
Data Protection Guide	This guide describes, among other topics, what a synchronous mirror is, how to enable it, and how to maintain it.
System Administrator's Guide	This guide describes how to maintain your appliance and disk drive software.
Software Setup Guide	This guide describes how to configure the software of a new appliance for the first time.

Required tools

The following list specifies the tools you need to install the cluster:

Required equipment

When you receive your cluster, you should receive the following cables and adapters:

Clusters that have DS14 disk shelves--one optical cable per port on the dual Fibre Channel adapter.
Clusters that have FC9 disk shelves--one MIA (media interface adapter) for each input LRC on the first disk shelves only.
Multiple DB-9 shelf-to-shelf cables for clusters in equipment racks.
Two dual-headed optical cable for the IB cluster adapter.
Note
If your cluster will be farther apart than 30 meters, you must use an SC-SC 50/125 cable to connect the local nodes to the partner disk shelves and LC-LC 50/125 cables to connect the IB cluster interconnect adapters.
