Updating outdated software and firmware  

Updating your software is a three-part process:

• Update Data ONTAP on both nodes
• Update only the node firmware on both nodes
• Update only disk firmware
• Update only disk shelf firmware

  Note
  If you are updating Data ONTAP to a minor release (a dot release), node and disk shelf firmware are automatically updated. If you are updating to a major release of Data ONTAP, you must manually update node and disk shelf firmware.
