Each disk shelf enclosure features external system indicators (LEDs) that are controlled by the Environmental Monitoring Unit (EMU). The EMU is field replaceable by removing two thumbscrews and sliding it out the back of the enclosure. The EMU, however, is not hot swappable--the disk shelf must be powered down before replacement. The EMU communicates In-Band to the SCSI host system through its serial port, which is connected to the HDD Backplane Serial Port.
The EMU is plugged into the power backplane at the back of the enclosure.
Note
The external connection ports on the EMU are not used.
