Using the restore command

Specifying tape devices

About backup tape devices  Top

When you performed a backup, you specified one or more tape devices. The files written by these devices can be on one or more tapes.

Compression types must be the same  Top

You must use the same compression type to restore a backup as you did to perform the backup; however, you can use a different rewind type and device number. For example, you can use rst1a and tape drive 1 to restore a backup done on nrst0a, provided that the two tape drives use the same kind of tape.

Specifying the tape devices  Top

To specify the tape devices for restores, complete the following steps.

Action

1

Use the f option in the restore command line.

Caution
If you do not specify at least one tape device, the restore command terminates.
