Using the restore command

Specifying ignoring inode limitations

About inode limitations  Top

Inodes are data structures that contain information about files. The number of files, and, therefore, the number of inodes per volume, is determined by the maxfiles command. For information about setting the maximum number of files per volume and displaying inode information, see the System Administrator's Guide.

Reasons to ignore inode limitations  Top

The restore command assumes that the files being restored are added to the number of files on the filer, and, therefore, that the inodes are added to the filer. When the total of inodes in the restore and the inodes on a filer exceeds the number of inodes that are allowed on a filer, the restore is terminated.

However, if a restore updates an existing file, the inode count remains the same. Therefore, if you are sure that the restore consists mostly of files to be updated rather than new files, you can safely specify that the filer ignore the calculations of the restore command.

Caution
If a restore causes the number of inodes to exceed the maximum allowed, the restore is terminated.
