Displaying and changing the description of the filer

About the filer description

The description of a filer appears in the Comment field when you browse the network. Initially, the filer has no description. Adding an informative description enables you to distinguish your filer from other computers on the network.

The description can be up to 48 characters.

Changing the filer description from Server Manager

To change the filer description from Server Manager, complete the following steps.

1	Select your filer from Server Manager.
2	Type the description of the filer in the Description field. Example The following figure illustrates how to change the description from "Engr filer (Data ONTAP 5.3)" to "Marketing filer (Data ONTAP 5.3)."
